Meet Kelvin, a solo infection preventionist in a healthcare facility in Nigeria. He was ready to abandon his career due to overwhelming challenges and staff resistance, despite his strong background in biochemistry and epidemiology. Just six months after joining the Powerful IP™ group coaching program, he transformed into a confident leader whose infection prevention initiatives now receive enthusiastic support from both staff and management.

Thanks to his newfound confidence and newly acquired skills through the Powerful IP™ program, Kelvin has achieved significant cost savings and promoted quality care within his healthcare facility:

  • Surgical site infection (SSI) rates have decreased by 30% within 3 months

  • Patient satisfaction has increased by 60% within 6 months (according to his patient satisfaction survey)

Healthcare workers interacting

Carole W. Kamangu, Founder/CEO of Dumontel Healthcare Consulting, led a 100-day campaign-based quality improvement project for a public health hospital in the Seattle area to address the sudden increase in healthcare-associated infections (HAI) observed within a period of 30 days.

The project’s approach combined organizational leadership, quality improvement, infection prevention and control (IPC) and public health principles. The interventions included data mining and reporting, collaborative leadership with stakeholder engagement, education and training of selected team champions on proper hand hygiene, environmental and equipment cleaning and disinfection, using a train-the-trainer model, and the implementation of these concepts at the organizational level through a structured sustainability and handover process.

Project outcomes included:

  • Healthcare cost savings exceeding $570,000 within 100 days as a result of a 33% decrease in infections

  • Creation of a robust hand hygiene program with sustained compliance rates exceeding 94%

  • The organization achieved Magnet Status

Dumontel Healthcare Consulting held handwashing education sessions with 90 first graders and 5 elementary school teachers. The selected classrooms learned the basics of germ theory, used “Glo germ” gel to understand how microbes spread and learned proper hand hygiene techniques.

"The kids really loved it! We didn't realize how much they needed to learn how to wash their hands correctly. Please come back next school year!" - R.M., first grade teacher

Dumontel Healthcare Consulting collaborated with a small homeowners’ community in Texas to deliver infection prevention-related education through hand hygiene, masking, and cleaning and disinfection demonstrations for the local fire department and police staff, parents, and children from the local community.

“We believe that the essence of community service goes beyond our routine corporate responsibilities. It’s about utilizing our professional skills and knowledge to educate and empower our communities.” - Carole W. Kamangu, Founder/CEO, Dumontel Healthcare Consulting, LLC
